Garage Door Repair - Odenton MD
One of the fastest growing suburbs in Maryland, Odenton is ranked at No. 56 in 100 of the Best Places to Live, according to Niche.com. Odenton is a bustling business, industrial and residential hub, thanks mainly to the presence of Ft. George G. Meade, National Security Agency (NSA), United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Located just a short drive away from Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., Odenton is perfect for commuting or for taking a day trip with family and friends.
The Annapolis and Elk Ridge Railroad (A&ER) first laid tracks in 1840 across the sparsely populated farming region that would one day become Odenton. During the Civil War, this railway was heavily guarded by Union soldiers since it was the only direct link to Washington, D.C. In 1868, the Baltimore Potomac (B&P) was completed and crossed the A&ER at one point. There, a telegraph office and railroad station house were built. By 1892, a post office, school, Methodist church, and a few mercantile stores had been added and the little town of Odenton was set. Ft. George G. Meade
In 1917, when Americans entered WWI, Ft. Meade was quickly established. Over 5,040 acres in and around Odenton were chosen due to its close proximity by railroad to Washington D.C and Baltimore. Farmers, merchants and residents were displaced as the federal government commandeered the land. During the next few years, over 400,000 soldiers came through Ft. Meade to train and then ship out where needed. In the years during WWII (1942-1945), Ft. Meade saw over 3.5 million soldiers passing through. Needless to say, Ft. Meade significantly contributed to Odenton’s growth.
